Dancing is part of our human nature. We all find ourselves at one time or another moving rhythmically to music. For those of us who have two left feet, the shower is the ultimate singing and dancing arena. However, some people know how to boogie really well and may even do it professionally. Dancing is a form of artistic, spiritual and cultural expression. Individuals communicate their emotions and thoughts through dancing. To perfect this art and learn different styles, one may have to attend dance lessons in Long Island.

Tap dancing was the only form of expression where the dancer is also the musician. This technique of dancing is characterized by a tapping sound that is created by metal plates on the shoes of the dancers. This technique is said to have originated from African American jazz moves and Irish step dancing. The shoes used in performance are specially made with metal plates on the heel and ball. The plate is tapped on a hard surface at intermittent intervals to provide a rhythm.

Salsa is a romantic routine that is performed by passionate dancers. The routine traces its roots to Latin America and the Caribbean islands. Salsa has gained a lot of popularity in clubs and ballrooms due to its sensual moves. Normally, it is done in twos but solo acts and line performances are not very unusual.

Belly choreography is a popular form of expression that is mainly done by women. This complex ritualistic routine can only be perfected after years of practice. The origins of this exercise are ancient India and the Persian peninsula. The term belly lays a lot of emphasis on the abdominal area, which is however not the only area used in the performance. The entire body is actively involved in the movements.

Break dancing is one of the five core genres of hip hop. This is a routine influenced by street dances. Break dancing is popular in nearly all parts of the world since it pegs its existence on rap music. Some of the popular moves in break dancing include; popping, waving, locking, twirling and freezing. These movements require a lot of practice. The dancers must be strong and flexible to execute the routine perfectly.

Ballet is a graceful and highly artistic routine that traces its roots to ancient France. The dance is combines with gymnastics and acrobatic motions that are interesting to watch. Over the past few years, ballet has gained massive prominence in Europe and the Americas for its perceived sophistication. It is mostly performed in operas to the tune of orchestra music.

Line boogieing is a choreographed performance executed by a group of dancers. A sequence of steps is practiced and repeated by the dancers. The performance has no restriction in terms of gender. The most popular example of this routine was performed by the late Michael Jackson in his thriller video.

Dancing has been part of human expression for millions of years. It is embedded in cultural, religious and spiritual practices. Individuals can also practice for entertainment or personal exercise. There are many dance lessons in Long Island that individuals can attend to hone their dancing skills.
