Should You Work On Subsea Assets?

By Indira Antonellis

Subsea assets is not a very common term for most of us, but they are a valuable commodity because of the activities that they make possible. With the help of subsea equipment and technology, it is now possible to take a closer look at the underwater life. They also make possible the construction of offshore facilities which allows resources from the ocean to be extracted and developed.

With the help of subsea equipments, marine biologists can discover uncharted territories under the ocean and find new aquatic flora and fauna. These equipment and tools serve as a link between our world and the ocean - they help unlock doors to a whole new world of life. They also allow people to explore and study in a way that is safe not only for them but for the aquatic life as well.

Through the help of submersible technologies, documentaries about the marine life are now being made and this helps people to understand and respect it more. Equipments such as water-proof video cameras and submarine vessels make it possible to study and explore many uncharted territories in the ocean. A well-known such technology used in locating objects in the ocean is called sonar.

For the gas and oil industry, subsea assets are among the things they cannot do without - it is the bread and butter of this industry. With the help of such equipment and technology, it is possible to explore new oil fields, perform drilling activities, and to process the extracted resources. It is through this technology that work is done more efficiently in offshore facilities such as oil rigs and offshore wind farms.

In order to safely develop oil and gas fields in a marine environment, the use of subsea technology is necessary. Whether it is in the form of technology or equipment, they must be reliable enough to protect the marine flora and fauna, and ensure that the exploration and extraction of resources are economically feasible.

Subsea assets are also of great importance in the offshore wind power and underwater mining industry. Offshore wind farms generally make use of such technology for the installation and maintenance of transmission cable and electrical equipment. In underwater mining, equipment such as ROV's (remotely operated vehicles) help in the collection of mineral samples from the ocean floor.
