If You Are Struggling With Scratched Glasses Lens Repair Will Be Essential

By Eula Nichols

Life has become so expensive, and when little accidents lead to more costs being incurred, that does not make anyone happy. Scratched glasses lens repair is one such expense which is not entirely welcome. An accidental scratch can cost more than anticipated especially if it is not dealt with delicately and efficiently.

These fashion accessories were carefully chosen for their aesthetic value, first and foremost. However their primary function is for you to actually be able to see how you look in them! Now, there is a slight blur where the irritating scratch lies.

Who knew that such a small scratch can cause such discomfort? Not only is this a disaster, but the cost involved to repair them will probably be even worse. All lenses are not the same and are made of different materials. This is a choice that was carefully explained to you whilst you were making the important choice for new lenses. You painstakingly listened to every word, and finally came upon a decision which felt just right.

Some lenses may be of glass, some of polycarbonate and so forth, not to mention the special added extras which you have to coat them with. Coatings with names as long as your arm and just as confusing! Now how are you going to decide which is the right way to deal with those unsightly scratches, on your unique type of lenses?

Another consideration is to be able to take the lenses out of their frame, so as to not damage, twist or discolor the frame whilst repairing the scratches. This requires a very unique type of screw driver which will correctly fit with the screws on your frame. Also, be gentle when tightening or loosening the screw, you don't want to strip the head of the screw and have to go back to the shop where you bought them from anyway, as this can turn out to be an expensive adventure.

Most lenses are coated in an anti-glare finish and you are unsure as to how your actions might affect this coating. Also, even though the scratch might not be easy to see once you have vigorously buffed it, is it still there, will it resurface after the wax has worn off? Will the vision be as accurate once you have tampered with the shape of the lens?

Plastic lenses seem to scratch a lot easier than glass ones. The coating on the lenses may prove to be a problem too. The scratches might be on the coating only, but this is not a bonus as the coating will then be damaged if the scratch is to be buffed in one specific area. All of these pros and cons should be weighed up with the costs involved, before you make a decision on your plan of action.

Finally, you make a decision you think is the best one for you. You will return them to the store you purchased them from, and let the professionals deal with the ugly dilemma. Scratched glasses lens repair, now has become stress free and you are confident that it will all be sorted out properly the first time. Even if there is a cost involved, it surely won't match the cost that could be incurred by a botched job and just that saving is worth it.
