Clearing Trees Like A Lumberjack

By George Dodson

Parents used to tell the tale of the great lumberjack Paul Bunyan. Paul had a big blue ox named Babe. This tale was so famous that it inspired people to design restaurants in the Pacific Northwest.

Paul being 20 feet tall made him so good at felling trees. Using your imagination, you can see how easy a task it was for Paul. It is plain to see that in these times there are no giants felling trees and making waterholes for their animals.

There is an art, rather a technique in chopping down a tree properly. It is not just simple grabbing the axe and heading to the forest kind of business as you cannot chop a giant fir with a simple axe. If you do the above, then you are going to take plenty of time and use a lot of energy doing nothing. What is the proper way to chop down a tree?

The first thing to realize is that trees can be very dangerous when you want to do more than simply looking at them. Depending on the size of the tree, most trees are very wet and slippery. That's why loggers special boots.

Most trees that you be interested in chopping down our large and weigh a lot. While they are being fell, they can implicate great damage if not brought down in the right way.

It is required that you have the correct gear not forgetting a helmet. A tree limb falling from 30 or 40 feet can ruin your day quickly.

Make sure you have the proper axe. You want a chopping axe, and not a splitting axe. If you are not in with the difference, then find out.

Settle on the direction you want the tree to fall ensuring that it does not fall on people or property.

begin by creating a wedge facing the direction that you want the tree to fall. You want to wedge out small pieces, until you get a nice vee cut on that side of the tree. Afterwards, you should get to the other side of the tree cutting out another vee above the other vee. Carry on cutting out the pieces while watching the tree. You want it to fall in the direction of the cut. That isn't always the case. If it begins to fall in your direction, ensure that you move out of the way. This is to say that you move clear of the tree stump. As the tree falls, it might kick up on the end causing you injury while doing so.

Listen to a groaning sound while you are felling a tree as this signifies its weakening. As soon as the tree begins to fall in the direction you want, clear away from the stump a safe distance until it is completely down.
