Fishing With Tube Baits On The River

By Lana Bray

Everybody who goes fishing always wants to catch the biggest fish of the group. This is common amongst every angler in the world. This is one reason why tube baits are so effective and why artificial lures are so good at nabbing the big fish. People who can use them effectively usually have the best luck out of anyone on the trip.

These are great for fishing for a variety of reasons but for the Bass species they work really well because of the depth they operate in and the way they look when retrieved. The tube shape really helps the lure move through the water like a wounded fish and this more than anything will attract a bite from another fish.

The manufacturer can add shiny glitter or metal flakes for a bit of shine when it hits sunlight or they can make the color anything they want by using different rubber. This also allows for the fisherman to add their own scent. There are a lot of different scent sprays on the market and it is very easy to impregnate the bait with a scent favorable to fish.

The fact that the lure presents itself at an almost perfect depth and does not readily sink to the bottom also helps it to be effective. It can swim right past the fish where they are sitting in the water waiting for food to swim by. Retrieving these at the perfect depth and speed is not as hard as it would be for other lures.

These baits are also made so that you can insert scents if you wish to enhance their effectiveness. Special scent sprays and inserts are sold in bait shops around the country that are made specifically for these and other lures. You can spray the scent onto the lure and as it runs through the water it will leave a trail that the fish can detect.

The lure can do the rest of the work for them. The third aspect of this lure that makes it superior to most is how it floats in the water depending on what (if anything) is attached to it. By itself the lure will stay buoyant to a certain extent and never sink all the way to the bottom. This is great for hanging fish that do not go deep.

They have a hard time knowing how fast to retrieve their lure and how to retrieve it. The tube baits on the other hand can be brought back with a simple, slow reel and does not need to be given any special actions or "pops" in the water. Sometimes this will only serve to frighten the fish and prevent them from seeing and striking the bait.

Because of the way the tube baits can hang in the water without sinking they are perfect for this strategy. They can stay at the perfect depth, right where the fish are sitting, then you can make your multiple passes in front of them just waiting for the strike. Then when it comes be ready, because they will strike hard.
