Here is the thing-I do not know how to make a movie because I have never done it before. When the timing is right, I'll find the exact person or people I need to help me. Is it ridiculous to think that some small, steel mill town kid can do that? Absolutely. So what? You'll see that movie. I do not know how yet, but I will continue to follow the Seven-Step Plan.
Step One-Have specific goals. I've already worked out the details of the movie. I've written down exactly who will sing the theme song for the movie. I also know which actress is going to play the role of my sister.
Step Two-Develop a purpose for my goal. Why do I want to do it? I want to inspire people to appreciate their loved ones and bring families back together.
Step Three-List others who could help me achieve my goal. I'm still in the process meeting people in the movie industry. I recently became friends with a major Hollywood writer who's been involved with many successful movies. He came to one of my speaker boot camps, and now he's on my list.
Step Four-Create the plan. I made use of Future Perfect Planning to visualize the result. I am at the premier of the movie, and The Hollywood Reporter called it the #1 must-see family movie of the year. I'm on talk shows discussing how the movie is changing families and changing lives. I began at the end and worked backward to what I need to do right now.
Step Five-Think of the possible obstacles and the solutions. There are lots of possible roadblocks. One possibility is that the producer does not like the script. There will also be no violence, no drugs, no murder, and no comedy, which are elements that most movies have these days. I will find a way to overcome that.
Step Six-Take action. What steps do I have to take? I'm taking some minor steps right now by meeting with my new Hollywood writer friend, and other trusted friends to find the answers to questions like: How do we write a script? How do we get the financing? How do we do this?
Step Seven-Evaluate my progress as I go along and make necessary adjustments. I have been doing step seven all along the way, and I will continue to do so. The next thing you know, the movie will be in the theaters, and you and your family be in line to get your tickets.
Why did I tell you regarding this ridiculous goal of mine? First, I would like you to know it's okay to plan big from time to time. Number two, now I am accountable to all of you to keep taking action and make it happen. And finally, if a small, steel-mill town kid is willing to take the initiative to create a major motion picture, I hope that inspires you to see that yes, you could make another sale. Yes, you could have more fun in your life. You could do whatever you want. You don't always have to dream that big, but you have to know that anything is possible.
Whatever you desire to accomplish in your life, any goal, you can do it here. You could do it now. Just follow the Seven-Step Plan for attaining any goal and be a goal doer, not a goal setter.
